GRETNA – A local supermarket is being sued by a customer who claims she is permanently disabled after slipping and falling on cooking oil.
Yolanda Valiente filed suit against Rouse’s Enterprises LLC and Rouse’s Markets in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 1.
Valiente asserts she was shopping at the Rouse’s located at 2701 Airline Drive in Metairie when she slipped and fell in cooking oil that was allowed to accumulate on the floor. The plaintiff claims that she suffered severe and disabling injuries in the incident.
The defendant is accused of failing to maintain a reasonably safe place for visitors, failing to take necessary measures, failing to properly inspect and supervise premises, failing to warn visitors of the dangerous nature of the premises and failing to take steps to avoid the incident.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of earnings, permanent disability, loss of consortium, loss of enjoyment of life, penalties and attorney’s fees.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
