NEW ORLEANS – A construction company is being sued for failing to address water line leaks that flooded a pedestrian walkway, allegedly causing a woman to be injured in a fall.

Sharonda S. Shelby, and husband and Chester, filed suit against Shamrock Construction Company Inc., G. H. K. Developments Inc., Gause Blvd. Development Company Inc. and Gray Insurance Company in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court.

The plaintiff claims that while walking down Gause Boulevard in Slidell in June 2013, she observed a muddy area, which she attempted to traverse and slipped and fell on wet grass.

The defendants are accused of negligence for allowing dangerous conditions in a walkway between the construction chain-link fence and the curb caused by one or more leaking water lines. The plaintiff alleges that the defendants failed to inspect, failed to provide a safe place for pedestrians, or a remedy to the situation, and failed to provide reasonable care to discover, repair, barricade, or warn and allowing the ruin, vice, or defect to exist.

An undisclosed amount is ought for Chester Shelby’s loss of love, affection, and services of his wife. Sharonda Shelby seeks relief for her injuries and medical expenses, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, plus fees and costs of the proceedings.

The plaintiffs are represented by George R. Blue Jr. of George R. Blue Jr. LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV.

Case no. 2013-08290.
