Veterinary clinic sued by former employee for alleged unpaid wages

Frontdoor

GRETNA – A veterinary clinic is being sued by a former employee for allegedly withholding wages.

James Dickens filed suit against Southeast Veterinary Specialists LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on Nov. 6.

Dickens alleges that he was employed by Southeast Veterinary Specialists from May 1 to Nov. 14, 2011. The plaintiff claims that upon his separation from the company he was owed $4,134.88 in unpaid vacation pay as well as $759.88 for business related travel expenses. Dickens asserts he sent a certified letter to Southeast Veterinary Specialists asking for reimbursement for the fees and that after two years still received no response.

Throughout his employment with the defendant Dickens claims he was subjected to threats by the named officers of Southeast Veterinary Specialists that accountant fees and fees for HVAC repairs would come out of his salary.

The defendant is accused of refusing to pay benefits owed, refusal to pay wages, bad faith and violation of state and federal laws.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for all amounts owed and attorney’s fees.

Dickens is represented by Betsy J. Barnes of New Orleans-based Barnes & Root LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.

Case no. 732-729.
