GRETNA – A local clothing store is being sued by a woman who claims pieces of glass fell into her eye after an employee broke a light bulb hanging from the store’s ceiling.

Ann Maxie filed suit against Rainbow USA Inc. and Starr Indemnity & Liability Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Nov. 7.

Maxie alleges that on Nov. 17, 2012 she was a customer at the Rainbow located at 17 Westbank Expressway in Gretna when an employee was reaching for a piece of clothing with a pole designed to reach inventory hanging near the ceiling. The plaintiff claims that in the process the employee broke a light bulb and pieces of glass from bulb fell into her eye.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain the premises in safe condition and failing to properly train employees.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, disfigurement, disability and medical expenses.

Maxie is represented by attorney Jeffrey N. Rabb of Baton Rouge.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
