GRETNA – A local investment firm is being sued by a man who claims he loaned the firm $200,000 to perform cleanup after Hurricane Katrina.
Daniel D. Palmer filed suit against Jak Investments Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Nov. 13.
Palmer alleges that in September 2005 he loaned Jak Investments Inc. $200,000 to pursue and perform cleanup work in Jefferson Parish following Hurricane Katrina. The plaintiff asserts that Jak contracted with Ceres Environmental Services Inc. and Loupe Construction Company to haul debris, but that it was not properly compensated under the contract. Palmer claims because Jak was unable to retrieve the funds from the other contractors it failed to satisfy the obligations of the loan.
The defendant is accused of breach of contract.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for $200,000, interest and attorneys’ fees.
Palmer is represented by James R. Washington III of New Orleans-based Ajubita, Leftwich & Salzer LLC.
The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Donald A. Brown.
