Pediatrician allegedly injured by falling exhibit booth at convention center sues

NEW ORLEANS – A Mexican pediatrician who claims he was injured after being struck by a falling exhibit booth while attending an event held by the American Academy of Pediatrics at the Convention Center is suing.

Jesus Humberto Oyarzabal Camacho M.D. of Mexico City, Mexico, filed suit against Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall, New Orleans Public Facility Management Inc., Tradeshowlogistics.com Inc., American Casualty Company of Ready, Pennsylvania, American Academy of Pediatrics and Federal Insurance Company.

The suit states that on Oct. 22, 2012, while attending an event held by the American Academy of Pediatrics at the Convention Center, the plaintiff was struck by a falling exhibit booth/display wall. The plaintiff claims he was knocked to the ground and sustained injuries to his head, neck, back, right shoulder, arm and hand.

The defendants are accused of failing to provide proper maintenance, allowing an unreasonable dangerous condition to exist, failing to warn and being otherwise negligent.

The plaintiff is represented by Richard P. Voorhies of The Voorhies Law Firm of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV.
