Fire damaged home renovations lead to lawsuit against homeowners over alleged non-payment

GRETNA – The owners of a home that was damaged by fire are being sued by a company that claims it was not paid to make repairs on the property.

Ray Brown and Ray Brown Builders filed suit against Rhonda Johnson, Shewanda Johnson Dunn, Sabrina Johnson Hickerson, Robert Johnson Jr. and Marlon Johnson-Ayers Sr. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 3.

Ray Brown Builders claims it rebuilt a home located at 541 Wiltz Lane in New Orleans owned by the defendants that was damaged in a fire. The plaintiff asserts it entered into the contract with the defendants for $126,000 to provide construction services, materials and labor. Ray Brown Builders alleges theyit satisfactorily completed all work on the home including additional work to bring the property up to code, but are still owed $28,778.02.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

Damages in the amount of $28,778.02 plus attorney’s fees are sought by Ray Brown Builders.

Ray Brown Builders is represented by Ryan C. Higgins of Gretna-based Gaudry, Ranson, Higgins & Gremillion LLP.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.
