Casino sued by woman who claims she was robbed in parking lot after winning money

Boomtown

GRETNA – A local casino is being sued by a woman who claims she was severely injured in a parking lot attack in which she was robbed her of her winnings.

Kieu Giang Thi Tran filed suit against Boomtown LLC of Delaware, Pinnacle Entertainment, Boomtown Casino Westbank and Boomtown Casino New Orleans in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 28.

Tran alleges that she was gambling at Boomtown Casino located at 4132 Peters Road in Harvey and was winning. The plaintiff asserts that a man obviously saw her winning money from the casino and began to follow her around the casino. Tran claims that when she exited the casino the man attacked and robbed her resulting in severe and disabling injuries.

The plaintiff alleges that her attacker's motive is clear on video surveillance of the event and that casino personnel should have prevented the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to provide reasonably safe premises, failing to have proper lighting in a known dangerous area, failing to correct issues while having prior knowledge of the condition, failing to act upon the observation that the plaintiff was being followed, failing to have properly trained staff, failing to prevent a reasonably foreseeable criminal act upon its patron and failing to reasonably protect a patron who is invited to bring cash to a business which constitutes a trap.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for loss of cash and personal property, physical pain and suffering, emotional damage, psychological damage, medical bills and medical expenses.

Tran is represented by attorney Alan F. Schoenberger of Harvey.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.

Case no. 734-195.
