Landlord sues tenant for over $40K after breach of contract forced eviction

GRETNA – A landlord is suing his former tenant for allegedly breaching his lease two years prior to expiration.

Leonard Sirmopoulos filed suit against Reed Prestenbach in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 14.

Sirmopoulos asserts he entered into an agreement to rent a home he owns at 4149 Beaujolais Drive in Kenner to Prestenbach for $1,700 per month from Aug. 1, 2012 until July 31, 2015. The plaintiff claims the defendant paid rent on the home until June 2013 when he was forcefully evicted by a justice of the peace.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract and inflicting economic damages.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for the rent due for the unexpired term plus 25 percent interest which amounts to $40,800.

Sirmopoulos is represented by attorney Wallace Kent Porter of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.
