GRETNA – Plaintiff Bruce Normand filed suit against Ty Lao in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 27.

Normand asserts that he was renting an apartment in a building owned by Lao on March 4, 2013 when he slipped off the porch and fell to the ground after exiting his apartment.  The plaintiff claims the apartment unit did not have a railing or safety handle in place, which led to the incident. Normand alleges he suffered injuries to his right shoulder and back, which required medical attention.

The defendant is accused of failing to provide a safe place for tenants, failing to provide a safety railing or handle and violation of state law.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, emotional pain and suffering and medical bills.

Normand is represented by Myles Steib of Metairie-based Gardner & Steib, Attorneys at Law LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.

Case no. 734-962.
