Woman who lost job allegedly due to injuries suffered at Wal-Mart sues

GRETNA – A woman who claims she was injured in a slip and fall at Wal-Mart and lost her job after missing work to receive medical treatment is suing.

Cheryl Dillard filed suit against Wal-Mart Louisiana and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 10.

Dillard alleges on Sept. 7, 2012 she was shopping at the Wal-Mart located at 4810 Lapalco Blvd. in Marrero when she slipped on liquid and fell to the floor. The plaintiff claims she injured her wrist in the incident and subsequently sough medical treatment at Advance Medical Center, West Jefferson Medical Center and Jefferson Radiology Associates. Dillard asserts that she missed work at Sodexo on Sept. 7, 2012, where she received a wage of $7.50 per hour, on the date of the incident and was later terminated nearly two months later on Nov. 30, 2012.

The defendant is accused of failing to supervise common areas, failing to maintain a floor and walkway in a safe condition, failing to maintain the premises and failing to comply with applicable state laws.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for bodily injury, mental anguish, emotional distress, partial disability, public humiliation and medical expenses.

Dillard is represented by Lionel Lon Burns of the New Orleans-based Law Office of Lionel Lon Burns.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Donald A. Rowan Jr.
