GRETNA – A local hospital is being sued by a woman who claims she was injured when she tried to enter an area where a jewelry sale was being held and tripped over a set of wires.

Eva L. Castine filed suit against Jefferson Parish Hospital District No. 1 and West Jefferson Medical Center in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 28.

Castine claims on March 7, 2013 she was visiting a jewelry and accessories sale at West Jefferson Medical Center when she tripped over a set of wires in the area and fell to the ground. The plaintiff asserts she received seriously injuries to her head, wrist, knee and ankle as well as bleeding in her eyes.

The defendant is accused of failing to do what should have been done, failing to keep a clear pathway at all times, disregarding the safety of others, failing to take steps to avoid the incident, creating a trap, improper and inadequate maintenance of the premises, maintaining defective premises and failing to warn of the hazardous premises.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, medical expenses, permanent disability, loss of enjoyment of life, disfigurement and physical disorder.

Castine is represented by Glen D. Price Jr. of Gretna-based Grant & Barrow.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.
