GRETNA – A casino is being sued by a woman who claims she slipped and fell on a wet floor.
Mary Hazelett filed suit against Louisiana A-1 Gaming, Boomtown Belle Casino and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 9.
Hazelett claims that on April 9, 2013 she went with her sister to a buffet style restaurant within the Boomtown Belle Casino located at 4132 Peters Road in Harvey and were met by a hostess who seated them at a table where a caution ‘wet floor’ sign was situated. The plaintiff alleges that she entered and left the booth numerous times throughout the meal without incident, but when she went to exit the restaurant her feet slipped out from underneath her and she fell backwards landing on the ground. Hazelett asserts that she had stepped on food particles that had been allowed to collect on the floor.
The defendant is accused of failing to exercise reasonable care in keeping the restaurant floors clean, failing to carry out a reasonable cleanup and safety procedure, failing to follow and carry out employee directives, failing to take appropriate measures to determine the source of hazardous conditions and failing to warn of the hazard.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental pain and anguish and permanent physical impairment.
