GRETNA – A couple is suing a pair of alarm companies after their alarm allegedly did not sound when their home was broken into.

Danna G. and Dennis Necaise filed suit against XCEL Security Systems LLC and Alarm Monitoring Services Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 24.

The Necaises claim they purchased a home alarm system from XCEL that was installed at their home located at 117 Commerce St. in Gretna and that later on they purchased replacement windows at which time XCEL installed new contacts on the windows. However, the plaintiffs contend XCEL failed to install audio switches on the new windows that sound an alarm when glass breaks. After the glass was replaced the Necaises assert they entered into a monitoring facility agreement for three years with Alarm Monitoring Systems.

The plaintiffs allege that on July 1, 2013 intruders broke into their property and that the equipment installed did not function properly and an alert was not sent out to the monitoring company. After they made their way into the home, the Necaises claim the intruders ripped the alarm panel off the wall, which should have alerted Alarm Monitoring Services but did not. The plaintiffs assert the intruders were able to steal jewelry, cash, a handgun, a laptop computer and video camera worth a combined $60,000 in the burglary.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for all losses.

The Necaises are represented by Heather A. LaSalle of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.
