Woman sues landlords after daughter’s alleged fall through porch railing

NEW ORLEANS – A mother is filing suit against a real estate development company and a New Orleans housing management firm for their alleged role in her daughter's injury.

Shiago Lastie filed suit against Redmellon Restoration & Development, Renewal Holmes Project and New Orleans Apartment Managing and Marketing in the  Orleans Parish Civil District Court on June 23.

Lastie claims that on June 22, 3013 at 9312 Belfast St. in New Orleans, her daughter, fell through an unsound section of the home's porch railing.

The plaintiff asserts that her daughter required medical treatment as a result of the fall. Lastie purports that her daughter suffered injuries to her hand and wrist.

The defendants are accused of negligence and gross carelessness for allowing a dangerous condition to exist and failing to inspect the premises for defects.

The plaintiff seeks an unknown amount in damages for medical expenses, drug expenses, residual or permanent disability and physical pain and suffering.

Lastie is represented by attorney Sherry Legaux.

The case has been assigned to District I Judge Piper D. Griffin.

Case no. 2014-06210.
