Taekwondo student sues over slip in sweat

GRETNA – A Taekwondo student who was taking a course at a local recreational center is suing after she was allegedly injured after being involved in a martial arts maneuver.

Julie Wooten filed suit against Greg Livaudais, Louisiana Sport Taekwondo LLC, Granite State Insurance Company and Jewish Community Center in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 23.

Wooten asserts that on July 23, 2013 she was participating in a Taekwondo class at 3747 W. Esplanade Ave. in Metairie. The plaintiff alleges that she was asked by the instructor Livaudais to perform a maneuver on the floor.

Wooten contends that the floor did not have any mats or padding and she slipped and fell in sweat or another slippery substance and was injured.

The defendant is accused of not supplying corrective safety equipment, not properly supervising the participants, creating a hazardous conditions and failing to see what he should have seen.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress, mental anguish, disabilities and property damage.

Wooten is represented by Bruce C. Betzer of The Law Office of Bruce C. Betzer of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.
