GRETNA – A bar patron who fell on the premises after 3 a.m. is suing the establishment and its owners.

Jeremy Jones filed suit against Clabe and Harriet Singleton, Jay’s Placae and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 20.

Jones contends that he was a customer at Jay’s Place located at 1201 Burmaster St. in Gretna at 3:15 a.m. when he climbed the stairs to a DJ booth to speak with the DJ. The plaintiff claims upon leaving the DJ booth he slipped on an unknown substance and fell down the stairs, which had no handrail, severely injuring his right knee. Jones alleges he had to undergo knee surgery due to the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly design a safe set of stairs, failing to ascertain the stars were safe and poor lighting in the stairwell.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for convalescence, pain and suffering, emotional anguish, mental distress, loss of earnings and medical bills.

Jones is represented by attorney Michael L. Mullin of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.

Case no. 741-520.
