GRETNA – A specialty property insurer for military members is being sued by a customer who claims it did not properly provide coverage.

Gerald P. Reed filed suit against Armed Forces Insurance Exchange in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 21.

The plaintiff alleges that he had property insurance in place provided by the defendant for his house located at 949 Kingsway Drive in Gretna when the home was hit by Hurricane Isaac on Aug. 29, 2012. Reed claims that in the course of the hurricane extensive damage worth thousands of dollars was done to his home. The plaintiff contends that Armed Forces Insurance Exchange sent out an insurance adjuster who did a shoddy inspection on the property and failed to pay for all of the damage done to the property.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract, bad faith and violation of state law.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for an amount to cover all losses plus attorney’s fees.

Reed is represented by Wesley G. Barr of the New Orleans-based Olinde Law Firm LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.

Case no. 741-572.
