GRETNA – A local hotel is suing its property insurer for allegedly failing to make full payments for repair of hurricane-related damage.
W Bank Hotel and Travelodge New Orleans West Bank filed suit against Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 26.
W Bank Hotel and Travelodge New Orleans West Bank allege that their hotel located at 2200 West Bank Expressway in Harvey was covered by a property insurance policy issued by Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation for which they paid $30,725 per year. The plaintiffs contend this policy was in effect when the hotel sustained severe structural damage and business losses on Aug. 29, 2012 during Hurricane Issac.
W Bank Hotel and Travelodge New Orleans West Bank assert that Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corporation failed to properly and timely adjust their property damage claim and did not identify obvious damage at the time of their inspection and failed to provide adequate compensation for their losses despite being provided with receipts of all applicable repairs made following the hurricane.
The defendant is accused of breach of contract, bad faith and violation of state law.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for all costs necessary for repair of the structure.
W Bank Hotel and Travelodge New Orleans West Bank allege are represented by Jacob D. Young of the Lafayette-based The Young Firm LLC.
The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.
