Shell Chemical Company sued by electrical training company over alleged breach of contract

Breach of contract

GRETNA – An electrical company that provides training programs is suing a chemical company claiming it breached a contract by canceling it too late.

Electrical Consultants Inc. filed suit against Shell Chemical Company Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 29.

Electrical Consultants Inc. contends it had a contract with Shell Chemical Company Inc. to provide training seminars at its Norco, La. facility to teach safe work practices and requirements to employees. The plaintiff asserts the defendants signed a contract with on May 15 to design and provide three training programs scheduled for July 15-17 for a total cost of $11,876 at the time of the booking and that the programs had to be canceled at least 30 days in advance for the charge to be waived.

Electrical Consultants Inc. claims when it inquired the day before the commencement of the contract about the training programs it was told the training programs had been suspended. The plaintiff alleges that the notice was given so late that its teacher, who lives in Rochester, N.Y., was already on his way to teach the classes when they were cancelled.

In addition, the plaintiffs claim another training session that was to take place on Aug. 11 at a cost of $39,075 was also canceled, but not within the 30 time period as required for a waiver of the fee.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for all amounts owed.

Electrical Consultants Inc. is represented by attorney Ronald L. Wilson of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.

Case no. 741-825.
