GRETNA – A lumber company is being sued by a customer who claims it sold her defective flooring that buckled and separated weeks after being installed.

Claire Loup filed suit against Lumber Liquidators Incorporated, Boucher Construction and Renovation LLC and Fernando Paladino in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 23.

Loup contends that she contracted Lumber Liquidators  to provide Bellwood flooring for her home located at 3750 Bauvais St. in Metairie and that it was installed by Boucher Construction and Renovation on Sept. 20 and 21, 2013. The plaintiff asserts that three weeks after the flooring installation the wood became defective and began to buckle and separate. In addition, Loup claims the flooring that was provided to her by the defendants contained a dangerously high level of formaldehyde.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for return of the purchase price of the flooring, all expenses incidental to the sale, installation expenses, inconvenience, distress and attorney’s fees.

Loup is represented by attorney Jennifer N. Willis of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.

Case no. 742-719.
