GRETNA – The mother of an inmate at a juvenile prison is suing over injuries she claims her son received when he was attacked and severely injured by other inmates.
Tawana Prejean, individually and on behalf of her minor son, filed suit against Bridge Center Center for Youths and the State of Louisiana in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 25.
Prejean alleges that her minor son was an inmate at the Bridge Center Center for Youths on July 29, 2013 when he was brutally attacked by other juveniles housed at the facility. The plaintiff contends her son was severely injured in the incident including a broken jaw, lacerations to his eye and injuries to his neck.
The defendant is accused of negligence and failing to see what should have been seen.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for trauma, medical expenses and scarring.
Prejean is represented by attorney Sherman Stanford of Opelousas.
The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Glenn B. Ansardi.
