NEW ORLEANS – A law firm that allegedly failed to receive compensation for its successful defense of its client is suing.
Degan, Blanchard & Nash APLC filed suit against Star Transport Inc. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Sept. 23.
On Dec. 10, 2009, Degan, Blanchard & Nash (DBN) was allegedly hired to provide defense services on behalf of the defendant Star Transport. In addition, the plaintiffs were to assist Star Transport’s employee, a Christopher Humes, in a lawsuit filed by Kenwoski Jackson. On Feb. 26, the two opposing parties agreed to a settlement, including Jackson organizing a motion to dismiss with prejudice acquitting all claims filed against Star Transport and Christopher Humes.
On Feb. 27, the motion was granted, clearing all claims against Star Transport and Christopher Humes. On March 21, DBN notified Star Transport with a final bill for the defense services provided. DBN has represented the defendant over a four-year period, allegedly forwarding continuous invoices, of which only two have been paid. On Aug. 27, DBN ordered via certified mail that Star Transport pay in full $40,048.79 for the supplied services.
The plaintiffs are represented by R. Edward Blanchard and Nicholas J. Cenac of Degan, Blanchard & Nash.
The case has been assigned to Div. J Judge Paula A. Brown.
