GRETNA – A local grocery store is being sued by a woman who claims she was injured after slipping and falling on chicken grease while shopping with her family.

Lisa Raison, and husband Derek, individually and on behalf of their minor son, filed suit against Rouse’s Enterprises LLC and Rouse’s Markets in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 8.

Raison alleges that she was shopping with her family at the Rouse’s located at 1000 West Esplanade Ave. in Kenner on July 17 when she was walking past a display of rotisserie chicken and slipped on grease and fell to the floor. The plaintiff contends that she was seriously and permanently injured in the incident.

The defendant is accused of creating and permitting an unreasonably slippery condition, failing to maintain or construct the premises in a safe condition, failing to implement proper safety and cleanup procedures, failing to warn of a dangerous condition, failing to warn customers, failing to place wet floor signs, failing to timely remedy or clean up a known dangerous condition, failing to exercise due care and caution and failing to properly maintain displays to avoid leaks.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, anxiety, distress, depression, physical disability, mental anguish, medical expenses, diminished enjoyment of life, lost earnings and loss of earning capacity.

Raison is represented by Stephen M. Chouest of Metairie-based Chouest Law Firm.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
