Wal-Mart sued after woman claims permanent disability from trip and fall over cable

GRETNA – An international retailer is being sued by a local woman who claims she was permanently injured after tripping and falling on a cable.

Karen Hebert filed suit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and its insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 22.

Hebert claims that she was a customer at the Wal-mart located at 1501 Manhattan Blvd. in Harvey when she tripped on an unmarked cable and fell to the floor. The plaintiff alleges that she is permanent disability due to injuries she received in the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain a safe place for visitors, failing to take necessary precautions, failing to properly maintain and supervise premises, failing to warn visitors and failing to take steps to avoid the incident.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of earnings, loss of earning capacity, loss of enjoyment of life, permanent disability, loss of consortium and attorney’s fees.

Hebert is represented by Edward J. Womac of the New Orleans-based Law Offices of Edward J. Womac Jr. & Associates.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.
