GRETNA – A local hospital is suing after a driver allegedly struck and injured an employee in its parking lot, resulting in the employer paying out workers’ compensation benefits.

Jefferson Parish Hospital Service District Number Two, Parish of Jefferson State of Louisiana and East Jefferson General Hospital filed suit against Regina Rougee, Sydney Dupont and State Farm Mutual Auto Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 31.

The plaintiffs allege that Rougee was employed by East Jefferson General Hospital as a registered nurse on Nov. 20, 2013 when she was walking on the hospital campus and was struck by a vehicle driven by Dupont in which she injured her right forearm, wrist and ulnar nerve. Rougee allegedly sought workers’ compensation benefits, which East Jefferson General Hospital paid, due to the injuries she sustained in the incident. The plaintiffs assert that the workers’ compensation benefits, medical benefits and medical bill review fees paid should actually be the responsibility of Dupont, and State Farm Mutual Auto Insurance Company as her insurer, who allegedly caused the incident.

The defendants are accused of negligence.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought by the plaintiff.

The plaintiffs are represented by Jacqueline G. Griffith of Metairie-based Chehardy, Sherman, Ellis, Murray, Recile, Griffith, Stakelum & Hayes LLP.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.

Case no. 743-884.
