Hotel sued by guest who alleges injury from slip and fall in shower

GRETNA – A guest at a local hotel is suing over injuries she claims to have received in a slip and fall in the shower.

Susan Kuenkner filed suit against Marriott International Inc., Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, Marriott Hotel Services Inc., Trans Inns Management Inc., Charter Oak Fire Insurance Company, The Travelers Insurance Company of America and an unknown insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Nov. 13.

The plaintiff claims that she received serious injuries in the incident including to her knee and ankle which have required surgical and rehabilitation treatment.

The hotel is located at 4535 Williams Blvd. in Kennert, the suit says.

The defendant is accused of failing to ensure the hotel was safe, failing to ensure showers were safe, failing to adhere to non-slip base, failing to keep the premises in a safe condition, failing to instruct employees on proper maintenance and creating and allowing a dangerous condition.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, lost wages, loss of enjoyment of life, disability from working to earn an income, destruction of earning capacity and disability.

Kuenkner is represented by Brian J. Houghtaling of New Orleans-based Houghtaling Law Firm LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.
