NEW ORLEANS – A local man is suing both a local pharmacy and a pharmaceutical company for side effects allegedly incurred as a result of ingesting a hypertension drug.

Marcus Bernard filed suit against Walgreen Louisiana Co. Inc., Pfizer Inc. and Purepac Pharmaceutical Co. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Nov. 3, 2014.

The plaintiff claims that he was prescribed Spironolactone, a drug used to battle hypertension and heart disease, on Sept. 8, 2013, and as a result of taking the medication had a serious reaction and developed hypertrophy of the breasts. The plaintiff asserts that as a result of the defendant's negligence he was forced to seek medical attention for the resulting injuries.

The plaintiff seeks an unspecified amount in damages for mental anguish and pain, physical suffering and medical expenses.

The plaintiff is represented by New Orleans-based attorney Louis A. Gerdes Jr.

This case has been assigned to Div. A Judge Tiffany G. Chase.

Case no. 2014 -11553.
