Attorney sues client he represented in child custody, support case for $8K

GRETNA – A local attorney is sung a client who he claims did not pay him for representation he provided in a child custody and support matter.

Jeffrey W. Bennett filed suit against Dean Anthony Keese in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 23, 2014.

Bennett asserts he was hired on Nov. 1, 2011 by Keese to provide legal representation at a cost of $200 per hour relating to paternity, child custody and child support matters. The plaintiff claims he represented the defendant from Nov. 11, 2011 to June 18, 2013 before he made an unopposed motion to the court to withdraw as counsel. On June 30, Bennett alleges he sent Keese a bill for $8,031 for his services, but Keese has refused to pay him.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

Damages in the amount of $8,031 plus 12 percent interest is sought by the plaintiff.

Bennett is represented by Rachel I. Silvers of the Metairie-based Silvers Law Firm LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
