NEW ORLEANS – A professor of English who taught at Dillard University claims that his contract was unjustly terminated after the university discovered information about his sexual orientation.

Gregory Tillman Ph.D filed suit against Dillard University in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Dec. 24, 2014.

The plaintiff asserts that he was hired on Aug. 14, 2013, as a professor of English. He claims that on Sept. 18, 2013, he met with the standing director of human resources to discuss third party information provided to the institution and its possible implications of his employment.

Tillman asserts that he was terminated on Oct. 12, 2013 as "not a good fit."

He accuses the defendant of failing to discuss third party allegations with him, produce any substantial evidence for third party claims or provide a reasonable just account for his termination.

The plaintiff is suing for an unspecified amount in damages for lost wages and benefits, loss of earning capacity and emotional distress.

The plaintiff is represented by Richard G. Perque of New Orleans-based Richard G. Perque LLC.

This case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robin M. Giarrusso.
