GRETNA – A hair salon is being sued by a woman who claims that a hair dye application caused her hair to fall out.

Sabrina Beevers, and husband Landon, filed suit against Spa Santé and Salon LLC and Latessia McClellan in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 3.

Beevers claims that on Feb. 7, 2014 she visited the Santé Salon & Spa located at 3348 West Esplanade Ave. in Metairie where she received a demi-permanent hair dye job performed by McClellan. The plaintiff alleges that after leaving the salon her scalp became itchy, dry and her hair became brittle. Beevers contends that when she returned to Spa Santé and Salon on March 6, 2014 to get her hair done again a relaxer was applied to her hair and when it was rinsed McClellan informed her that her hair was falling out, reselling in the creation of large bald spots. The plaintiff asserts that the incident occurred due to an improper dye job that caused chemical damage to her hair and scalp and resulted in her suffering anxiety, stress, depression and palpitations.

The defendant is accused of failing to follow manufacturer’s instructions when preparing the hair dye product, failing to cease application of hair relaxer after noticing her hair was damaged, selecting and applying a dangerous chemical to the plaintiff’s hair, failing to test for safety, failing to adhere to the rules and regulations of the Louisiana Cosmetology Board and violation of state law.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, medical expenses, mental pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of consortium, loss of income, loss of earning capacity, permanent hair damage and disfiguring scarring.
