GRETNA – A school bus driver who allegedly injured two women by running her school bus into their car is being sued along with her employer.
Ann Barnes and Courtney Colbert filed suit against National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, First Student Inc. and Ahyshia Davis in the 24th Judicial District Court on March 6.
Barnes asserts that on April 4, 2014 she was driving her 2009 Nissan Altima on Trenton Street in Metairie when a First Student school bus driven by Davis, who was in the process of making a turn, collided with her vehicle. Both Barnes and her passenger Colbert claim they received severe personal injuries to their backs in the collision.
The driver defendant is accused of failing to see what should have been seen, failing to avoid the accident, making an improper run, operating motor vehicle in a careless manner and operating a motor vehicle in a reckless manner.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of income, loss of earning capacity ad loss of enjoyment of life.
The plaintiffs are represented by Jack P. Ruli of Metairie-based Gennusa, Piacun & Ruli.
The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
