Roofing company files $100K lawsuit alleging non-payment for work on airplane hangar

New orleans lakefront airport

NEW ORLEANS – A roofing company claims it is owed close to $100,000 for work completed on an airplane hangar at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport.

Mandal’s Inc. filed suit against G.M.&R. Construction Company Inc., Travelers Casualty and Surety Company of America and the Non-Flood Protection Asset Management Authority in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Feb. 26.

The Non-Flood Protection Asset Management Authority (NFPAMA) reached a contractual agreement with GMR Construction Company to replace the James Wedell Hanger at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport located at 6001 Stars and Stripes Blvd. in New Orleans. GMR then entrusted the petitioner, Mandal’s, by reaching a separate subcontract agreement to provide “sheet-metal work” and “certain roofing.”

Mandal’s claims the roofing company completed work in a timely manner. However, despite consistent invoices to the defendant, GMR has allegedly failed to pay the full balance  of $98,736.95.

The plaintiff contends GMR has already received payment from NFPAMA, therefore, GMR has directly infringed on state law by not reimbursing Mandal’s for the outstanding debt due. The petitioner continues by insisting Travelers is also liable for compensating GMR for the airplane hangar project.

The plaintiff is represented by J. Ashley Inabnet, Lawrence J. Boasso and Matthew J. Guy of Inabnet & Jones LLC.

The case has been assigned to Div. F Judge Christopher J. Bruno.

Case no. 2015-01781.
