Parade-goer sues claiming float rider hurled lemon, hit her in the eye

Alemon

GRETNA – A spectator of the Irish-Italian Parade claims a float rider in the parade threw a lemon at her, hitting her in the eye and causing an injury that has affected her vision.

Cathy Hartdegen filed suit against Louisiana Irish-Italian Associations Inc., an unknown float rider and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court on March 22.

Hartdegen claims she was sitting in a chair on the side of the Irish-Italian Parade on March 22, 2014. The plaintiff alleges she had her head turned when an unknown rider on float #22 threw a lemon at her and struck her in the eye as she turned her head back to look at the parade. Hartdegen contends her eye was severely injured in the incident and she has continued to have problems with her vision ever since.

The defendant is accused of failing to exercise reasonable care, failing to implement reasonable safety precautions, failing to act in a prudent manner and failing to properly instruct and supervise float riders.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life, attorney’s fees and legal costs.

Hartdegen is represented by attorney Phyllis C. Coci of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.

Case no. 747-911.
