Steel company sues City of New Orleans over firehouse project

NEW ORLEANS – A steel company subcontracted to build a firehouse for the City of New Orleans is claiming that it has not yet been paid for the sum of its work.

Southern Steel Fabricators, LLC filed suit against the City of New Orleans and Suretec Agency Services, Inc. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on May 18.

The suit says that in February 2013, the city of New Orleans entered into a contract with Devier Design Build to construct a firehouse at 4300 Alba Rd. in Venetian Isles. Later that month, Devier entered into a subcontract to provide steel fabrication services for the project. The plaintiff, Southern Steel, supplied materials and other construction management services for a total amount of $153,271.30

The plaintiff is represented by Attorneys Steve A. North and johnny R. Huckabay, II of Monroe-based Hudson, Potts & BernStein, L.L.P.

This case has been assigned to Division N Judge Ethel S. Julien.
