Woman sues, claims building owner is responsible for broken teeth, arm

Tripfall

GRETNA – A commercial building owner is being sued by a woman who claims she broke her teeth and her arm in a fall in a parking lot.

Peggy Huguenel, and husband E.J., filed suit against Veterans Blvd. Properties LLC and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 4.

Huguenel claims that after having dinner on Aug. 14, 2014 she was walking through the parking lot at 8814 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie owned by Veterans Blvd. Properties. The plaintiff alleges the parking lot she was walking through, owned by the defendants, had several different concrete slabs that were uneven due to sinking and as a result she tripped and fell. Huguenel contends she suffered severe personal injuries in the incident in including a broken arm, broken teeth and swelling and bruising to her face.

The defendant is accused of failing to keep the property free of hazards, failing to keep the parking lot in a safe condition, failing to inspect the parking lot, failing to implement reasonable safety procedures, failing to restrict access, failing to design the parking lot to proper standards, allowing unsafe conditions, failing to detect and correct trip hazards and creating an unreasonable risk of harm.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, loss of insurability, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, physical injuries, physical pain and suffering and mental anguish.

Huguenel is represented by attorney Randall J. Meyer of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.

Case no. 750-361.
