GRETNA – A woman who claims her car caught fire after an oil change and inspection is suing a local car dealer for allegedly defective work.

Sandra R. Morris filed suit against Premier Nissan LLC, Premier Nissan of Metairie, Nissan North America Inc., Patrick D. Mullet and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 8.

Morris asserts that on June 17, 2014 she brought her 2011 Nissan Altima for an oil change as well as a multi-point inspection. The plaintiff claims that on June 19, 2014 she was driving her car to work when it began to shake, lose power and fill with smoke. Morris alleges she pulled over to the side of the road and the vehicle caught on fire and filled with smoke. The plaintiff contends she feared for her life in the incident.

Morris asserts the car was completely consumed by fire and deemed a total loss. The plaintiff claims the defendants should have identified the faulty condition that led to the fire.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly perform an oil change, failing install of reinstall plugs that had been removed during the oil change, failing to properly inspect the vehicle and failing to indicate potential concerns during the inspection.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for property damage, mental anguish, attorney’s fees and costs.

Morris is represented by Jeremy S. Epstein of New Orleans-based Epstein Law Firm LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
