LG Electronics sued over alleged damage to home from refrigerator fire

Lg

GRETNA – A property insurer is suing a refrigerator manufacturer after one of its refrigerators allegedly failed and caused a fire in one of its client’s homes.

State Farm Fire and Casualty Company, a partial suborn of Jimmie and Shirley Boudoin, filed suit against LG Electronics U.S.A. Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 19.

State Farm contends it provided a policy for property insurance for the Boudoins’ home located at 5225 August Lane in Marrero. The plaintiff asserts the Boudoins had a refrigerator in their home provided by LG Electronics that failed and caused fire. State Farm claims the damage from the fire should be covered by LG Electronics because it was caused by a manufacturing defect.

The defendant is accused of constructing an unreasonably dangerous device, designing an unreasonably dangerous product, not providing adequate warnings and not conform to express warranties.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought by the plaintiff.

State Farmis represented by attorney James F. Brouillette of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.

Case no. 750-819.
