Macy’s sued, woman claims she was injured after display collapsed on her

GRETNA – A corporate retailer is being sued by a woman who claims she was injured when a display collapsed on top of her.

Gilda Graham filed suit against Macy’s Inc., Macy’s South Central and Macy’s Retail Holdings Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 19.

Graham asserts she was a guest at the Macy’s located at 3301 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie when she was suddenly struck by a large display and frame that fell on her. The plaintiff claims the incident resulted in painful physical and mental injuries.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain the area, failing to warn of the hazard, creating and maintaining a dangerous condition and allowing a dangerous condition to exist.

Damages not to exceed $50,000 are sought by the plaintiff for physical pain and suffering, medical expenses, permanent damage, loss of enjoyment of life and economic damage.

Graham is represented by attorney Pierre F. Gaudin of Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
