GRETNA – A local corporate retailer is being sued by a customer who claims she was injured after slipping and falling on a piece of watermelon.
Maria Bonomo, and husband Sal Bonomo filed suit against Sam’s Club in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 22.
Bonomo claims she was shopping at the Sam’s Club located on Airline Highway in Metairie when she stepped on what she believes was a part of a watermelon laying on the floor and fell. The plaintiff alleges she was in the jewelry area of the store when the incident occurred and the defendant had adequate time to clean up a hazard before the plaintiff’s slip and fall. Bonomo contends she was injured in the event.
The defendant is accused of negligence.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for lost wages, medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental pain and anguish and loss of enjoyment of life.
Bonomo is represented by attorney James A. Hatch of Metairie.
The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.
