Storage company sued after wall allegedly falls on, crushes rental car

GRETNA – A car rental company is suing a storage facility after a wall allegedly fell on and crushed one of its cars.

Nifty Car Rental LLC filed suit against Dependable Storage Service Inc., Carubba Inc., CEI Construction, Carubba Engineering Inc. and Seneca Insurance Company Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 24.

Nifty Car Rental asserts that a 2010 Toyota Camry it owns was parked near the Dependable Storage Service Inc. on Jefferson Highway in Jefferson near Iris Avenue when a wall collapsed on top of the vehicle, crushing it. The plaintiff claims that the defendants are liable for the damages.

The defendants are accused of failing to ensure the premises were in good condition, failing to properly supervise demolition and contraction on the premises and failing to properly support the wall.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for the $12,000 value of the 2010 Toyota Camry as well as costs for loss of use of the vehicle worth $1,819.93.

Nifty Car Rental is represented by Brian D. Katz of New Orleans-based Herman Herman & Katz LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.

Case no. 750-953.
