Contractor, plumber sued for allegedly negligent work causing sewage backup, mold growth in home

Larmold

GRETNA – A homeowner and her son are suing a contractor and plumbing company that allegedly caused sewage to back into their home, which resulted in the development of mold.

Leslie Camese and Amari Simmons filed suit against Mid-South Developers of LA Inc., J&R Plumbing LLC and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 27.

Camese contends that a property she owns at 208 Dale Ave. in Gretna was elevated by Mid-South on July 8, 2013 for a cost of $123,017.23. Camese asserts that Mid-South contracted J&R Plumbing to install plumbing, but that it improperly installed new plumbing lines that were not properly supported and sloping in the wrong direction. As a result, Camese claims her home has suffered sewage backups that have led to mold growth and water damage in the home. Camese alleges she and her son, Amari, have had their health endangered by being exposed to the mold.

The defendant is accused of breach of warranty, failing to make adequate inspection of the home and failing to properly pour the home’s concrete slab.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for property damage, mental anguish, medical expenses and inconvenience.

Camese and Simmons is represented by attorney David W. Oestreicher II of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge E. Adrian Adams.

Case no. 751-078.
