GRETNA – A medical doctor is suing a cable company claiming one of its installers punctured her practice’s roof while installing cable which led to a leak that damaged an expensive piece of medical equipment.

Dr. Suman Gupta, and husband Dr. Narinder Gupta, filed suit against Cox Communications LLC and John Doe in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 9.

Gupta contends she is a dermatologist who uses a laser device to perform medical procedures in her medical practice. The plaintiff asserts that during a rainstorm the laser in her office was drenched with water due to a hole in the roof which during later inspection was found to be caused by the installation of cables by a Cox Communications employee at the practice she owns with her husband located at 120 Terry Parkway in Terrytown.

The defendant is accused of failing to exercise reasonable care, failing to properly follow protocol, failing to take steps to preserve the roof and failing to do what should have been done.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for the total loss of the laser, roof damage and lost profits and revenue.

Gupta is represented by attorney Kyle S. Sclafani of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.

Case no. 751-444.
