Louisiana construction companies sued over unpaid overtime allegations

Overtime

Two Louisiana carpenters are suing their former employers over claims of unpaid overtime wages.

Rene Lopez and Jose Moran, individually and for all others similarly situated, filed a collective action complaint on Sept. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Hal Collums Construction LLC, Central City Millworks LLC, and Hal Collums, alleging unpaid overtime wages in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The complaint states that while the plaintiffs were employed as carpenters for the defendants, they were paid an hourly rate but were not paid time-and-a-half for hours worked over 40 hours per work week. The complaint states the plaintiffs regularly worked over 40 hours per week.

The plaintiffs and others in the collective seek to recover unpaid wages, interest, liquidated damages, and attorney fees and court costs.

They are represented by Roberto Luis Costales and William H. Beaumont of New Orleans.
