TJ Maxx patron claims she is permanently disabled after slip and fall in store

GRETNA – A corporate retailer is being sued by a woman who claims she was permanently disabled in a slip and fall at one of their local stores.

Jill Tombar filed suit against TJX Companies Inc. and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 10.

Tombar claims claims she was shopping at the TJ Maxx located at 6601 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie on July 12, 2014 when she slipped in a large puddle and fell to the floor. The plaintiff alleges she was severely injured in the incident and is permanently disabled.

The defendant is accused of failing to respond to unsafe conditions, allowing the existence of unsafe conditions, negligent supervision, failing to warn of hazards, failing to provide a safe premises and not timely correcting the hazard.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, pain and suffering, physical injuries, inconvenience, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of earning capacity, lost wages, loss of earning capacity and permanent disability.

Tombar is represented by J. Benjamin Avin of New Orleans-based Irpino Law Firm.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.
