Pedicyclist sues after electrician allegedly runs into him with truck

GRETNA – A man who was riding a pedicycle on Veterans Blvd. in Metairie is suing a truck driver who allegedly ran into him with a truck.

Odis Coats filed suit against Benard Blanchard, Benard Blanchard Electric LLC and State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 10.

Coats claims on Aug. 9, 2014 he was riding a pedicycle on a sidewalk on Veterans Blvd. in Metairie when Blanchard ran into him with a truck. The plaintiff alleges he suffered severe and disabling injuries in the incident. Coats contends

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain control of his vehicle, failing to see what should have been seen, failing to take necessary measures and failing to avoid the accident.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for personal injuries, psychological damage, loss of enjoyment of life, medical costs, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, aggravation and inconvenience.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Donald A. Rowan Jr.
