A Jefferson-based metal manufacturer is suing a company based in Wisconsin claiming that it infringed on a copyright of its steel basket double fryer attachment to outdoor cookers.

Metal Fusion Inc. filed a lawsuit Aug. 4 against Chard International LLC in the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Louisiana citing copyright infringement. Metal Fusion Inc. is asking the court to issue a preliminary and final injunction against Chard from using what it believes is its unique and patented fryer attachment.

Metal Fusion is seeking to be adequately compensated for Chard’s alleged past and continuing acts of infringement, Metal Fusion’s lost profits, and in any event no lower than a reasonable royalty to be determined under current market conditions. The claim states that the patent was legally issued to Metal Fusion Inc. on June 16.

Metal Fusion Inc. is represented by Brett A. North and Vanessa M. D'Souza of Garvey, Smith, Nehbrass & North LLC in Metairie.
