A St. Tammany Parish woman is suing an orthopaedic and sales corporation, alleging a prosthesis in her right hip caused her pain and discomfort.
Julie Brown filed a lawsuit July 24 in U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana against Howmedica Osteonics, doing business as Stryker Orthopaedics, Stryker Corp. and Stryker Sales Corporation, alleging she has suffered injuries due to the implementation of the company’s device at her right hip. The suit also alleges excessive levels of cobalt and chromium in the device have caused her further pain and discomfort.
According to the lawsuit, in August 2010, Brown was implanted with a Stryker Rejuvenate prosthesis in her right hip at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington. By early 2015, the lawsuit says, she came under the care of Dr. Roderick Chandler for her hip-related symptoms. Chandler recommended replacement of the hip implant.
Brown seeks a jury trial, compensatory damages, all applicable statutory damages, attorney fees and costs, prejudgment interest and costs of suit, as well as restitution and disgorgement of profits. She is represented by attorneys James E. Cazalot Jr. of Slidell and Bruce M. Danner of Madisonville.
