A Franklin woman is suing a pharmaceutical company over alleged personal injury caused by one of their products.
Kasinda Carpenter filed suit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana on June 3 against Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Inc., Bayer Pharma AG, and Bayer OY, alleging injury as a result of using their intra-uterine device Mirena and citing violations of the Louisiana Products Liability Act and warranty of redhibition.
In July 2014, Carpenter was prescribed Mirena by her doctor, the claim states. She allegedly suffered damages to her uterus due to it migrating near her ovary. She was admitted to Christus Schumpert Highland Hospital on Aug 26, 2014, for surgical removal of the problem IUD. The claim alleges she may have permanent damage as a result of using the IUD.
Carpenter is seeking unspecified damages, litigation costs, and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court. She is represented by Douglas R. Plymale of the Plymale Law Firm in New Orleans and William H. “Billy” Burris of Franklinton.
