Morgan Ray’s captain accuses Crosby Tugs of negligence

Tugboat

NEW ORLEANS – A Bayou Vista tugboat captain says another boat’s reckless operation in the Harvey Canal caused him to fall, injuring his shoulder.

Troy Matthiews and his wife, Tracey, filed a lawsuit Nov. 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Crosby Tugs, citing negligence and personal injury.

According to the complaint, while Matthiews attempted to cross between the Morgan Ray, the boat he captained, and another tug on Nov. 30, 2014, the marine vessel Crosby Rambler passed by at an excessive rate of speed. The resulting wave wash tossed Matthiews between the two tugs, injuring his right shoulder and other parts of his body. The Rambler was owned by Crosby Tugs, who the plaintiff claims is responsible for his injuries.

The Matthiews seek compensatory damages, plus litigation costs. They are represented by David A. and Beth E. Abramson of Lewis, Kullman, Sterbcow & Abramson in New Orleans and Paul M. Brannon of the Brannon Law Firm in Metairie.
